Two funds from NSFC

Event: AMT obtained two National Natural Science Foundation of China, including “Research on Actutaing Mechansim of an Ultrasonic Driller Driven by Dual Energy Flows for Asteroid Anchoring” govered by Dr. Qiquan Quan and “Research on Design Theory and Control Technology for Mars Rotorcraft” govered by Prof. Dewei Tang. The  fund of “Research on Actutaing Mechansim of an Ultrasonic Driller Driven by Dual Energy Flows for Asteroid Anchoring” would support the research on asteroid surface anchoring technology. And the fund of “Research on Design Theory and Control Technology for Mars Rotorcraft” would support the research on Mars rotorcraft technology.

Prof. Shugen Ma’s visit

Event: Invited by Prof. Zongquan Deng, Prof. Shugen Ma from Ritsumeikan University paid a visit to Research Center for Aerospace Mechanism and Control in August 16 to 19, 2019. Prof. Shugen Ma made an academic report on “Design and control of environment-adaptive rohbots” in the afternoon August 19, which is presided over by Prof. Dewei Tang. The faculty members attending this report include Prof. Jianguo Tao, Prof. Yingxiang Liu, A/Prof. Qiquan Quan and A/Prof. Gangfeng Liu. Prof. Shugen Ma would be the chairman of IROS 2022, which is an influential event in the robotics field and would be held in Kyoto, Japan in 2022. Professor Ma invited the teachers and students to Japan and to attend the international conference in 2022.

Prof. Shugen Ma received his Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo, Japan) in 1991. From 1991 to 1992 he was a Research Engineer with Komatsu Ltd and from 1992 to 1993 he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Riverside (USA). He joined the Department of Systems Engineering, Ibaraki University, Japan, as an Assistant Professor in July 1993. In October 2005, he moved to Ritsumeikan University, where he is currently a professor in the Department of Robotics. He was awarded by the “Hundred Talent Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for 2001 and the national “Thousand Talents Plan” in 2014. He also stayed in Johns Hopkins University (USA) as a Visiting Professor in 2014. His current research interests include the design and control of environment-adaptive robots, field robotics, and Bio-robotics. He has published over 400 papers in refereed professional journal and international conference proceedings with around 4500 citations. He has also developed more than 30 novel robot systems, filed 60 patents, and supervised 38 doctoral students to graduation. He is a fellow of the IEEE, a fellow of the JSME, and a member of the SICE and the Robotics Society of Japan. He was an associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Robotics from December 2003 to November 2007, an Editor of Advanced Robotics from April 2007, and serves many societies and conferences.

EventYinchao Wang, Deen Bai, Shuitian Chen, Guoqing Wang, Jiongfeng Hu and Zheng Yang, the undergraduates of Aerospace Mechanism Testing Laboratory (AMT), worked hard and managed to pass their thesis defenses. Yinchao Wang finished his  thesis titled “Research on rotary percussive ultrasonic drill driven by single piezoelectric stack” and will join Shenyang Aerospace University, Deen Bai finished his thesis titled “Research on rotary percussive ultrasonic drill with bidirectional drive and its performance” and will join Wuxi Pilot Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., Shuitian Chen finished his thesis titled “Lift-drag characteristics and experimental study on rotorcraft for Mars exploration” and joined SZ DJI Technology Co.,Ltd., Guoqing Wang finished his thesis titled “Development of an anchoring device for asteroid probe based on ultrasonic drilling” and joined China University of Mining and Technology, Jiongfeng Hu finished his thesis titled “Gas-driven Asteroid Regolith Sampling Device Base on Disk-shaped Cutter” and joined HUAWEI Technologies Co., Ltd., and Zheng Yang finished his thesis titled “Design and experimental study of an ultrasonic/sonic driller using single crystal piezoelectric ceramics” and will join CSIC 701 in July 2019. On 6th July, AMT held a celebration party at Shangju Dumpling cafeteria for their graduation.

Event: Aerospace Mechanism Testing laboratory (AMT) has moved into Technology Innovation Building (TIB) in the Science Park of Harbin Institute of Technology. Prof. Tang works in the K523 and A/Prof. Quan works in the 513-A, the other staff works in the K513-B, and the students in the K513-C and K523. The experiments are conducted in the K211 and K208. AMT hopes that a comfortable environment will enable everyone to do their job better.

Event: Dr. Xiaodong Wu, who is holding a position of associate professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, paid a visit to AMT laboratory of Research Center for Aerospace Mechanism and Control at Harbin Institute of Technology, China and exchanged on the issue of scientific cooperation with Prof. Yingxiang Liu and Dr. Qiquan Quan. He gave a talk on “Intelligent Vehicle Control”, and the students of the AMT laboratory had a warm exchange with Dr. Wu.

QUAN becomes Ph.D. Supervisor

Event: On April 24, 2019, Dr. Qiquan Quan smoothly passed the doctoral supervisor defense organized by Harbin Institute of Technology and became a Ph.D. supervisor in the faculty of Manufacture Engineering of Aerospace Vehicle. This success may accelerate the development of the AMT team.

Event: At one o’clock in the afternoon, Aerospace Mechanism Testing (AMT) laboratory held the 2018 year-end party on time. Firstly everyone reviewed and summed up his or her achievements in 2018, and talked about his or her plan of 2019. Then Prof. Dewei Tang summarized the achievements of the AMT laboratory in 2018 on behalf of Dr. Quan. Subsequently, the 2018 Photography Contest was held by secret ballot, and Mr. Hui Zhu won the best photo award and a bonus of ¥1000. The photo—Venice—will be set as a cover photo of the AMT laboratory homepage forever. AMT will hold the annual photography contest at every end of the year. Then Mr. Pengyue Zhao read AMT’s annual summary report of 2018. We have a fruitful and pleasant 2018. Finally, Prof. Dewei Tang prospected for AMT laboratory development in 2019. At night, all members of AMT laboratory gathered together in Shangju Dumpling cafeteria to greet the arrival of the new year 2019.

EventXin Yang, Tingting Yang and Aimaiti Bulading, the undergraduates of Aerospace Mechanism Testing Laboratory (AMT), worked hard and managed to pass their thesis defenses. Xi Yang finished his  thesis titled “Research on transducer driving characteristics of a percussive ultrasonic driller” and will join Midea of China in August 2018, Tingting Yang finished her thesis titled “Analysis of aerodynamic characteristics and experimental study on the trapezoidal blade of Mars UAV” and will join CETC 38 in July 2018, and Aimaiti Bulading finished his thesis titled “Design and experimental study of a percussive ultrasonic drill driver” and will join CSIC 704 in July 2018. On 29nd June, AMT held a celebration party at Hans Fresh Beer for their graduation.

He Li’s PhD graduation

Event: He Li, a member of the AMT, has been awarded the Ph.D. successfully. The title of his dissertation is “Study on characteristics of ultrasonic levitating bearings with the capability of carrying radial and axial loads”. During the period of pursuing the Ph.D., he has published several papers in journals and international conferences, such as Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, Applied Sciences. He will join Shandong University of Science and Technology in May 2018.
